Online Reflection 9

SITE STUDY
Project 2 encompasses a study of an Islamic building in Malaysia in order to understand the elements constitute to the diversified and unified aspects of Islamic architecture as well as the effects of it to the spiritual emotion through the concept of spiritual senses of space.

Our group has selected Putra mosque as our case study and we've conducted study like site observation, interview session and document study of the building.

We noticed that the landscape of the building is well maintained and followed the basic islamic's principles whereby they welcomed us with a reflective pool that acts as purified elements as well as greeneries that indeed show us a glimpse of paradise.

The entrance was designed from a lower human eye level to the exposed eye level providing us a sense of surprise when we stepped into the building. The massive pink dome indeed captured our eyes together with a sense of respect to the magnificent of its architecture.

Before entering such a sacred space, we are required to put on robe in order to show our respect and sincerity to Muslim as well as to God.

The mosque indeed gave us a serene and tranquil feeling when we entered the building. One of the volunteer has approached us and started to talk about the history and the principles of Islamic architecture. She was so friendly but sadly we didn't able to snap a picture of her. Of course, she gave all of us a short briefing on the design of this building. As told by her, most of the building materials are basically imported from German. I can imagine how high quality and perfection of all the things that Muslim who intends to give to Allah in order to show their respect and sincerity. Below are some pictures of the interior of the building:

Other than that, all of us also did some interviews to get to know others opinion regarding the spiritual senses that enhanced by its architecture. A further and deeper analysis please refer to the post above. Below are my personal experience of the mosque and also one of the interview transcript that our group has carried out.
